COSHH Compliant LEV Testing & Statutory Examination
Keep your workforce safe and your workshop legal with Powell CNC.
Is Your 14-Month Deadline Approaching?
Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) is your first line of defense against hazardous airborne contaminants. Under COSHH Regulation 9, maintaining this system is not optional—it is a mandatory legal requirement for any UK business producing dust, fume, or mist.
If your system hasn’t been tested in the last 14 months, your insurance may be invalid, and you are at risk of heavy HSE fines or a Prohibition Notice that could shut down your machinery.
Why Choose Powell CNC for Your LEV Test?
Most LEV testing companies are generalists, they test kitchen fans one day and welding bays the next. We are CNC and Laser specialists.
We Know Your Machines: We understand the specific static pressure requirements of a CNC router spindle and the airflow dynamics needed to clear hazardous fumes from a laser bed.
We Fix, We Don’t Just Fail: If a generalist tester finds a fault, they simply hand you a “Fail” sticker and walk away. Because we are machine engineers, we can often diagnose and fix airflow issues on the spot to get you passed.
Production-First Approach: We schedule testing to minimize downtime, keeping your workshop running efficiently.
What Does Our LEV Testing Include?
Our comprehensive examination follows the strict guidelines of HSG258 and provides you with the documentation you need to satisfy a Health & Safety inspector.
1. Visual & Structural Inspection We examine the physical condition of your hoods, ducting, and filter units, checking for damage, blockages, or wear that could compromise safety.
2. Quantitative Performance Testing We use calibrated equipment to measure:
Face Velocity: The speed of air entering the hood.
Duct Velocity: The speed of air moving through the system to ensure particles don’t settle and create fire risks.
Static Pressure: The resistance within the system.
3. The Compliance Report You will receive a full Report of Thorough Examination and Test. This is your legal proof that your system is functioning correctly and safe to use. It includes:
Test data and results.
Identification of any faults.
Clear recommendations for repairs or improvements.
Our Regulatory Standards
We don’t just guess; we test against the highest UK standards:
COSHH Regulation 9: Ensuring your LEV is maintained in efficient working order and good repair.
HSG258 (Controlling Airborne Contaminants): Adhering to the HSE guide for LEV design and testing.
BOHS P601: Our testing protocols align with the British Occupational Hygiene Society standards for the thorough examination and testing of LEV systems.
